Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas :)

I hope you're enjoying this holiday. I haven't written a Christmas story yet. Maybe I'll do that someday. But if you'd like to read something during the quiet hours of the holiday I recommend trying one of these (if you haven't done so already none of them are new) I wanted to share links where to buy them but many sites have download restrictions based on location of the buyer so you'd best look for these at your own favourite online book-store:

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The classic tale of the cold hearted Ebenezer Scrooge who gets visited by ghosts on Christmas eve gets remade into new films on a regular basis but it's also available to read online for free here at project Gutenberg.

If you're in the mood for a more light hearted fantasy/romance then The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen might be your thing. Though the plot may not be very surprising it is an easy read that won't bog you down if you're already overworked, overtired or plain stressed out from hanging around with your relatives all day long ;) You can read a preview at Penguin Random House.

If you need a bit more Christ in your Christmas that other classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis will serve you well. Depending on the copyright laws of your country you'll have to buy a copy or you might read it online for free. The book is in the public domain in countries where copyright lasts for 50 years after the demise of the author (such as Canada). In the EU & US copyright lasts till 70 years after the demise of the author.

So obtaining the book suddenly becomes a question of your own values: either respect the law of your country or do what's easiest on your wallet. Should you run out of things to discuss at the dinner table feel free to use this dilemma as a conversation starter ;) If you've really never read this one or if it's been ages ago, you can find a preview at Amazon.

Should you like a more agnostic holiday then Hogfather by Terry Pratchett will be more to your liking. Set in the Discworld multiverse it's an entirely different sort of Christmas story. Check the preview here.

For those of you who can read German and are looking for some Sci-fi/drama you might want to try Kelwitts Stern by Andreas Eschbach. There's a preview on Google and they have it at low cost in their play store.

Also in German but situated in Austria is the comedy based on a real life event Geschenkt by Daniel Glattauer. You can read a preview at Weltbild.

Do you have any books that you associate with Christmas? Let me know in the comments section.
